We cannot detect footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations that are not in parentheses.

Make sure the correct citation style is selected. If the citation style is correct, the text may not be formatted consistently with the style.

We check for a citation list via keywords. Please make sure that one of the following keywords are present, separating the main text from the list of references (case-insensitive): references, bibliography, works cited, citations.

This will only properly detect MLA style citations if the title of the reference in the Works Cited is indicated by quotations. If you are using italics instead of quotations, it will not work. :(
